A HUB is place to gather to seek and share information about hazards, needs and resources in the aftermath of a disaster. Madison Valley is one of 50+ Hubs around Seattle! Watch this video for an overview.

PLans for 2025
The Madison Valley Emergency Communication Hub board met in February to outline plans for 2025:
April 5: Prepare at Home. We will have a live presentation on how to ensure that your home and immediate family are prepared for an emergency. On a plane, you put the air mask on yourself before assisting your kids. Similarly, your own stability is a prerequisite to being able to assist others through the HUB.
2:00 - 3:30 pm, MLK FAME Community Center, 3201 E Republican St
May 3: Hub 101: Mutual Aid Mission. This year, the introduction to the hub will take a different twist for a tabletop simulation running a hub. Is it a game or is it training? The answer is YES! Mutual Aid Mission is game for 2- 8 players who create a Community Hub in response to an emergency such as an earthquake or an extended power outage. We'll set up several tables to accommodate multiple instances of the game.

June 7 and 22: North Seattle and South Seattle, respectively, will each hold a large hub deployment - Site TBD - in which hub volunteers from around the city will come together en masse to practice scenarios beyond the scope of our usual smaller drills. Please attend whichever one is most convenient location- and time-wise.
September 13: Madison Valley Hub Activation Drill. This year, we'd like to practice changing over shifts to simulate that aspect of what it will be like to have a hub running over an extended period of time. Shifts can help avoid burnout, but they also can cause information to be dropped when groups change.
The Madison Valley Hub covers almost two square miles. That's a lot of blocks -- and a lot of neighbors to connect with during an emergency. The hub system works best if neighbors on the same block know each other and can send one or more delegates back and forth to your local hub during a disaster. The City of Seattle created the SNAP (Seattle Neighborhoods Actively Prepare) program to help facilitate this. Find out how to organize your own SNAP block here.
Seem overwhelming? It isn't if you start by being hyper-local! By preparing at home, you help prepare your neighborhood. By preparing your neighborhood, you help prepare your community hub:
